How Training Personnel on Your Quality System Can Produce Positive ROI. Don’t Stop at the Quality Manager.

Is the quality manager the only individual within an organization that requires training on quality and improvement methods? Absolutely not! In order for an organization to get the most value out of their quality program, and to ensure it is effective, is to train as many people as possible or even all employees, depending on the size of the company, on the concepts and strategies that its quality management system is based on.

Why train multiple people on quality?


People need to understand why quality processes have been put in place, and their individual roles and responsibilities to the success of these processes. They must understand how their actions can affect cross functional departments and ultimately the quality of the products and services produced by the organization.



This can’t be achieved simply by posting your company’s quality policy in the main entrance or employee lunch areas. The best way to ensure the success of any program within an organization is to secure buy-in from all personnel. The best way to achieve buy-in is by educating them on that program and the reasons for its implementation.

What about the cost?

Now, I get it, it’s expensive to train large numbers of individuals. You have the cost of the training, lost work or production time, hotels, travel, food expenses, etc. The list goes on. One major complaint about classroom-style training methods is the time-consuming nature of the programs which take away from valuable time that could have been spent on other work. With online training, employees can participate in their online courses at any time from any location – including at home, during down time at work, or anywhere else they feel is appropriate. In today’s advances in technology and online learning these expenses can be mitigated or even erased entirely. You can now train as many people as you wish for a very minimal cost in dollars and lost time.


Can online training really be engaging for the student?


Of course you have to be selective with your online training options and ensure you get a quality product that will help students remain engaged and retain the information being presented. Certainly there are a lot of sub-par virtual training programs out there that provide robotic and automated voice and presentation methods. This helps no one! But an engaging and effective real life instructor can make all the difference and also provide that personal touch that is missing from many online training programs.

It’s a requirement!


ISO 9001:2015 requires that a single point of contact for the quality program is no longer sufficient to meet the standard and that it is now the responsibility of top management to be aware and involved in the quality function and the continual improvement of the organization.

Why stop at top management? Why not educate as many people as possible and leverage the power of education and personal involvement throughout all levels of the company? You would be amazed at just how effective this can be.
